The game starts out with new protagonist Bishop and Bravo Team members Logan Keller and Gabriel Nowak participating in a hostage rescue operation in the Pyrénées that goes sideways. However, it does have a slightly larger storyline than its predecessor, thanks to it starting before and then going on past where its predecessor had. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 doesn't have the massive maps or overarching stories of some of the games that came after it, like Rainbow Six Parasite appears to be bringing. Some of the late-game action was also set after the first game ended.
The events in this edition had aspects of the story that took place before and during its predecessor. This game was both a prequel and a sequel to the original Rainbow Six Vegas. One of the reasons that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was great was because it has a different kind of timeline than most other Rainbow Six games.
It's been 13 years since that game was released, and it's one that sometimes gets forgotten when ticking off some of the top titles in the franchise, but it still stands out for the way it used a continuing story line, as well as huge improvements on the game that came before it. While the games in the long-running franchise have changed settings and gameplay has evolved over the years, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is still one of the better games in the entire group. The game that used to be called Rainbow Six Quarantine has apparently received a new name and is expected to launch later this year.
